New Pajero Sport ramps up safety, not price

Safety first or savings first? There’s no compromise when it comes to the new 2017 Pajero Sport – the safest Pajero yet, available for the limited price of $49,9901.

Named ‘Top Lifestyle SUV of 2016’2 by Stuff motoring journalists and the bestselling vehicle in its class since launch, it could be argued that the Pajero Sport is great as it is. That hasn’t stopped Mitsubishi from adding even more smart technology to its 2017 model update, however – and at no extra cost to customers.
In fact, the new Pajero Sport has more standard safety features than any Pajero to date – and with seven seats, no one need miss the ride.
“For no extra cost, we’ve improved on what are already very high safety specifications across the range to ensure the new Pajero Sport provides even greater value and added peace of mind,” says Mitsubishi head of sales and marketing strategy Daniel Cook.
Pajero Sport is built for adventure, with family safety at heart. So whether you’re heading for the ski field in the middle of winter, or to the soccer field on a Saturday morning, any expedition can be undertaken with confidence and enjoyment.”
What’s new?
New to the XLS, Forward Collision Mitigation (FCM) is designed to avoid a collision with the vehicle ahead by detecting when that vehicle slows down and applying the brakes – if the driver doesn’t first.
It’s not just traffic in front that’s covered – a Blind Spot Warning system provides added insurance when switching lanes, whether it’s the height of rush hour or the driver thinks there’s no one else around.
The premium VRX, already boasting additional features such as a Multi Around View Monitor, Ultrasonic Miss-acceleration Mitigation System, Rain Sensing Wipers and Dusk Sensing Headlights, also now comes with Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).
Using a radar in the front grille badge (through which FCM also works), cruise control speed is matched with the vehicle ahead to maintain a safe following distance.
The best as standard
Packed with intelligent systems such as Multi-mode Anti Lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Active Stability Control and Active Traction Control (ATC), plus seven Pajero Airbag Saleas standard – all housed within Mitsubishi’s highly protective RISE body construction – Pajero Sport easily exceeds ANCAP’s 5 Star safety rating.
Smart features such as Hill Start Assist, which prevents roll back on steep hills when switching from brake to accelerator, and Trailer Stability Assist add to this class-leading SUV’s stellar safety credentials.
The complete package
Equipped with Super Select 4WD for ultimate confidence and capability on road and off, Pajero Sport is also the first Mitsubishi with an advanced Off-Road mode – for getting over terrain other SUVs struggle with.
It can wade through water up to 700mm deep and the 2.4L DiD MIVEC engine, shared by the XLS and VRX, produces a grunty 135kW and 437Nm – enough to pull more than 3 tonnes (braked).
“Put simply, Pajero Sport doesn’t compromise,” says Mr Cook.

1Pajero Sport XLS is available for the special promotional price of $49,990 plus on road costs; VRX is available for the special promotional price of $60,990 plus on-road costs – both backed by New Zealand’s best new car warranty.
